START YOUR ARTISAN BREAD JOURNEY
Whether you have been thinking about trying to bake your own bread or are already an expert home baker looking for new tools, our team has listed five steps to ensure a successful breadventure.
MAKE OR PURCHASE A STARTER
This is a mixture which allows your bread to rise, it takes around 5 to 7 days to create at home using flour and water or can be bought from a local baker. A jar will be your best friend!
A RECIPE
Maybe it is a family recipe passed down generations, or maybe you need a guide. Ensure you have a tried and tested method to ensure the perfect loaf of bread! Flour, Water, Salt, Yeast was recently awarded International Association of Culinary Professionals (IACP) outstanding Savory/Sweet cookbook winner.
A MIXER
Mixing by hand requires more flour and can often affect your recipe. Consider letting a mixer do the work for precision, time-saving and less mess!
A PROOFING BASKET
A banneton in French or brotform in German, a proofing basket is a must-have for baking. Let the dough double in size and breathe while capturing the ridges of the basket which forms beautiful lines on your dough.
A BAKING DISH
Look for a bowl that produces the same humidity as a traditional bread oven made from ceramic or a non-stick material, this is what give your bread an airy texture. Many bakers come with scored platters to prevent the loaf from sticking. We highly recommend the Emile Henry Round Bread Baker.
A BREAD KNIFE
We can all agree that a chewy crust makes sourdough delicious, however it can be a challenge to slice. Having a high-quality sharpened bread knife will make your life that much easier. Did you know if you purchase a knife at Lakehouse we will continue to sharpen it for you?
