About Le Creuset
In 1924, Armand Desaegher, a casting specialist, and Octave Auberg, an enameling expert, met at the International Commercial Fair in Brussels. They decided to combine their expertise and dedicate their careers to a new business venture: the development of enameled cast iron cookware – an unprecedented concept for its time.
In 1925, Le Creuset was born as the duo set up a foundry at a strategic crossroads of raw material needed to fabricate the first cocotte in Fresnoy-le-Grand, northern France. In the same year, the now iconic Round French Oven was born. The signature Le Creuset hue, originally called Volcanique, was inspired by the bright orange of molten cast iron inside a cauldron (or 'Creuset' in French). Within that first year, Le Creuset began setting the stage for bold, rich and unique colours to come.
Since 1925, Le Creuset cast iron has been recognized for its strength and durability; it distributes heat slowly and evenly throughout the entire vessel, making it ideal for all forms of cooking, whether slow-cooking, roasting, searing, stir-frying or baking. Cast individually in sand molds, then hand-inspected by French artisans, each piece represents a rich heritage and continues a tradition of lasting, authentic design.
Today, Le Creuset is proud to offer its customers kitchen solutions with cookware collections in enameled cast iron, stainless steel, nonstick, and stoneware, alongside tools and accessories.
